Short-term fix that breaks everything else. – Big Sean
Short-term fix that breaks everything else. – Big Sean
Listening to Big Sean "Single Again" takes me back to when I took a leap of faith to start my business. I felt so many emotions at one time. Excited yet scared... Anxious yet at ease... Empowered but smothered, all at the same time. I knew that my life was about to change but I did not fully know to what extent (good or bad). Once the high of being an entrepreneur wore off, I was there sitting at my desk, staring at my computer screen. Literally! I was patiently waiting for my customers to come rushing in so I can use my gift. To help others reach that next step in their career, whether it was a promotion, lateral move or even start something new. I was ready! At least I thought I was.
I had people interested in my services but I could not secure a client. How could that be? I mean, I had done this several times before with another company. I knew what to say. I knew my services. And I knew my craft. What was going wrong? Was this the wrong move? Should I have stayed with a typical 9-5? Surely, I knew that I was right where I supposed to be, however, I was still at a standstill. Some may call it stuck. After 6 months of trying every marketing tactic under the sun, I was convinced I needed a coach. I needed to get un-stuck and I mean fast. I was casually scrolling on Facebook and saw an ad for a business coach. First, for any advertisement on Facebook to catch my attention, it had to be an amazing ad. After listening to the advertising pitch, I took a leap of faith and reached out for a consultation. Unbeknownst to me, it was a working consultation. Once we started the Skype call, I gave the business coach a brief synopsis of my situation. He logged into a couple of accounts and had me do the same and share my screen. He gave me 2-3 practical tips (free of charge) and I implemented them right away. I know what you are thinking. So, what happened! I am happy you asked. Within a week, I received my very first client. Then the second one and third. You get the point. Within one month, I had four clients. Talk about being pretty stoked! I went from doubting my gifts and talents to being inspired to walking into my calling.
Long story short, I wasted so much time, in isolation doing my own thing. I was doing every marketing trend I found on Google that promised results (except it do not work). I joined several business loops on Instagram and ended up with the same results. Nothing changed. Everything I did to secure clients was a short-term fix that broke something else in my initial process. It also broke something in my spirit. However, it was only when I decided not to be single again (AKA do it alone and asked for help from a professional), I received the results I was looking for. I am here to tell you the same thing. The job search can be pretty lonely and daunting, especially if you do not know what the employers are looking for. But, the good news is that you don't have to face the process alone. It helps to know that you can have someone (a professional) on your side that "gets it". Someone that has a track record of achieving results. Someone that speaks the same language as recruiters and hiring managers. An added bonus is that you even get a cheer coach that is in your corner, cheering you on throughout the process. Most importantly, it helps to cut the job search process in half so you can get results you are truly looking for faster.
The worst thing you can do is remain single. Sure, you can implement many short-term fixes you found through Google but tell me this: Has that approach yielded your desired results? If not, my recommendation is to truly look into investing in yourself, your career and hire a professional resume writer and coach. The investment may seem scared but in the end, it’s totally worth it.. Tell me, when was the last time you invested in yourself professionally? If it's been awhile, today is a good day to start! You can thank me later. Now, back to Big Sean...
